They seem very perplexed at the results of this study. Consider:
"This is paradoxical, since the brain typically ceases functioning within 20-30 seconds of the heart stopping and doesn't resume again until the heart has been restarted."

This brings to mind Dr. Eben Alexander's case (separate from the AWARE study) in which he talks about having been 'brain dead' for some time, as opposed to 'heart stopped but not brain dead' situation. It is fascinating.
