Without the book?

I dont have any of his books but im thinking of buying the CD.

Would this be a waste?

If so what book should i start out with?

The CD album comes with a simple instruction booklet and is guided. So the answer is: depends. If you like to look things up and such I'd recommend MAP in book form. If you feel confident that with the online works and support here you can navigate the CD, then I'd say get the CD. I think it depends- my husband is not a 'reader for fun' so he liked the CD, because all he had to do was follow instructions and if he had any questions he could ask me.
For a step-by step structured how-to guide I'd recommend MAP; for more detail and extensive knowledge I'd recommend Astral Dynamics. So it depends on your preference.

Hi. I have recently bought the CD set and also have the book but I would definitely recommend having the CD set too. Its got the best relaxation techniques that I;ve ever come across so far.

You don't need to buy books to get started. Books are harder to follow so I would recommend the CDs.
