Lucid dreaming not REM sleep exactly

The articlegives an indication of recent research into lucid dreaming. It suggests that the findings show that lucid dreaming should be considered a unique state of consciousness rather than a REM dreaming phenomenon.

It seems that both beta and gamma activity in different portions of the brain have been linked to the state.

Fascinating...I wonder if this will lead to improved lucid dreaming settings for brainwave generators.
