what's exactly the sponging action in NEW?

In NEW tutorials sponging action is described as drawing a sponge through a limb and sponging liquid - does that mean squeezing the imaginary sponge with awareness hands to squeeze the liquid out of it or is it just moving the sponge up and down inside the limb without squeezing it? I tried sqeezing the sponge and it's really laborious and time consuming, I'd better stick with just moving it up and down but I'd like to know what exactly RB meant by sponging. How do you do it?

Some people like to 'squeeze it out' after they've done the actual sponging action for the 'image of cleanliness', but it's not necessary, because the idea is to get a 'feeling' going, even if faint. So squeezing is not necessary.
