G'day Folks,

Well, here we are. A shedload of work but its all working now. As promised, welcome to our shiny new vBulletin forum.

I have all the posts and users here, but have only notified admins and mods to play. Once our team is happy, we'll invite all our other users. Vbulletin can mass email everyone with instructions.

To those who have joined new, please feel free to roam the forums until the other users, about 4500, join us here. And as you are here, feel free to ask questions and etc.

take care, robert bruce

It seems to not be possible to set an avatar.

Some users now have extremely huge font sizes in their signatures.

G'day,

the forums new need some tweaking but all problems listed here can be easily fixed. I'll do what I can, but am on the road at the moment about to do a workshop in melbourne.

I took the mod forum offline....groan.....missed that one. I did not expect our users to be here so quick...

I'll do what I can to fix the permissions.

An updated database from the old forums, before the day of the one I imported, will cost about $300. and two days work, so will not do that in a hurt. It is a pretty big job, shifting, converting, importing, a 1 gigabyte database... any issues can be fixed as this forum has huge features and professional support, eg, it is a managed vbuletin forum host.

On the reply box (not the 'quick reply') that is in the top of the page, you get different thingies on the top, and on the fourth option there are smilies.
There's also smilies on the right side, but for some reason my browser only 'sees' two.

It seems to not be possible to set an avatar.

Some users now have extremely huge font sizes in their signatures. O venerable member, that's all adjustable if you go to your own control panel. on the very top, next to your username.

If I click Edit Avatar there is a button that says Do not use an avatar. It won't let me unclick it...

Same with me, i can't set a custom avatar.I can only set a pre-defined avatar.

You can upload avatars now. I've checked and double checked.

I fixed the smileys, which means I had to manually upload them all again and set the text replacement options manually, as well.

Here's the thread I started regarding avatars: http://www.astraldynamics.com.au/showthread.php?12203-Avatars

Here's the thread I started regarding the edit features and smileys: http://www.astraldynamics.com.au/showthread.php?12206-Smileybox-and-WYSIWYG-Editor

Here's the thread I started asking people to please report in that thread if they find glitches and problems: http://www.astraldynamics.com.au/showthread.php?12200-Please-report-any-all-forum-weirdness-so-we-can-fix-it!

Robert is away from home travelling, and some of the mods/admins don't have full abilities at this point for reasons we cannot ascertain, and we have a sick admin with a sick family member, so please be patient.

Rome wasn't burnt in a day, you know.

could somebody please tip me off as to how you arrange your pix in an album...i can choose the cover the rest only appear in the order that they are uploaded in?

ButterflyWoman
13th June 2011, 04:25 AM
I haven't explored the albums at all and I'm afraid I haven't got time to do that right now, but a lot of other things in this system allow you to list by number. The smileys, for example. Each one has a field where you can put in a number for order of appearance. Might the photo albums have something like that?

Otherwise, in this case, Google is your friend. I've been Googling like crazy while learning the back end system. Pretty much any question I've had has been posted by other people somewhere on the web, and answered, too. :)

the VBulletin design is more smoother and def. rates high on visually aesthetic factor.

ahan i've been having pic posting probs ....way back since migration.

i like posting pics - that way you can get away by saying about say a 1000 words without having to write one.

interesting that one of mods said smthg about posting pics in a thread that the OP asked be dissolved and nothing eventuated thereafter.

FML

Not sure how this can help, but apparently it's a vbulletin thing. Here's a couple of links that may help:

None of us have had any luck finding out about how to set or reset quotas. Perhaps if this is a significant issue, users might be interested in putting in the time with Google to find out what they can? I spent a few hours on this problem and came up pretty much empty handed. So any direction or solution found would be appreciated.

for those who tend to write (sometimes...) longer posts ... there's no draft options anymore? :-(

There is an addon for drafts: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=142153&page=15

I (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=142153&page=15)'m not sure, as I haven't worked with vbulletin for a long time, but there's an auto-save function and I reckon there must be a draft function built in somewhere. So addons might not be needed after all.
