    Faith and Guidance

    by Robert Bruce

I am often asked my opinion on New Age spiritual interests, like channeling, past life work, Tarot, astral projection, lucid dreaming, psychic readings, etc, etc. Some people tell me that these things are distractions, and that people should instead focus on the here and NOW, as Tolle might say.

There is some merit to this advice, to stay focused in the here and now, but I think that no matter what people are interested in, these things all lead people towards greater connections with the self, the higher self, and with the greater reality.

Some spiritual interests and activities may seem superficial, but the interest and energy people put into these things, even though this may at times be ego based, is important. This interest is an action and actions can be guided. So in a spiritual sense, this interest and energy is pure spiritual gold.

People often ask me which way to go in life when they are lost or stuck. I advise them to close their eyes, spin around three times, and then open their eyes and start walking.

I say "'it does not matter which way you go in life, for life will always guide you. All you need is a little faith and the courage to start walking."

What I mean here is that people need to take some kind of action, to start walking, in order for life to be able to guide them. Otherwise its like trying to steer a stationary car or boat. Nothing happens if you are not moving.

You need to be moving in order for the forces of life to steer you in the right direction. These forces comprise of inner guidance, necessity, environmental factors, opportunity and luck.

Even though the direction you start walking in may not appear to be the right way for you, give it a little time and you'll soon be going in another direction. Life will guide you to wherever it is you need to be for your life path and spiritual growth.

Life may take you down some dark and dismal pathways at times. You may at times suffer and say 'why is this happening to me?' But there is always light ahead. Light that you may not have been able to find any other way.

Whether you travel in darkness, shadow, or light, in happiness or sorry, guidance and life lessons will hit you from all sides. And one fine day you'll find yourself somewhere truly nice and interesting and fulfilling and wonder how you got there.

You got there on your own two feet, by walking your life path. As long as you are walking, it is impossible to miss your destination.

Following is a quote that relates to this message from Tom Campbell author of 'My Big Toe Trilogy'

    my big toe trilogy

"Practice alone will not get you there – neither will the most knowledgeable instructor. This is not an intellectual effort that yields deep knowledge to study and technique. It is not about doing. It is about being. If you do not change your being, modify who and what you are at a fundamental level, all the correct technique in the world will take you nowhere important. Indeed, too much focus on doing and proper technique is a detriment to your progress. Yes, a knowledgeable person can help but the technique they deliver is the small part, counseling you about how to interpret your individual experience so you can more quickly realize opportunities to grow up is the big part – but you must grab the opportunity and actualize it into a change in your being by yourself. Actualizing a change in your intellectual understanding may improve PMR communication skills but otherwise takes you no closer to your goal. Practicing meditation is simply a tool that provides simpler more obvious opportunities to grow – it is exceedingly easy to fail to actualize such opportunities – in my experience, whether they are pointed out or not by a teacher appears to make little difference. When you are ready, you intuitively grasp them; when you are not, they pass in one ear and out the other without leaving any trace that they had ever been there."
