Because we've been conditioned to 'need', and feel guilty about abundance at an emotional level. Religion.

Not neccessarily , most dont choose to be born in affluent or destitute settings , so that back tracks the question a bit moreWhat intrigues me is both abundance and need are choices we make.
That comes with the assumption most of us are aware that abundance is "just as easy to choose".So why do we choose need at a human level when abundance is just as easy to choose?

I think he's coming from a LoA metaphysical level- after all, many branches of metaphysics posits that we choose our existence. Perhaps we chose it to change this misconception to something more 'fruitful'.
