    Bears

I keep dreaming of bears chasing me. They never get me, they just chase me for the whole dream. I have had these dreams two or three nights in a row. In the last one when the bear almost got me, it turned into a tiger and was really affectionate and playful

Any ideas on what bears represent?

Depends on the culture; when I went to the Arizona desert I learned that the Navaho consider them symbols of wisdom and patience. I'll see what the totemic website says about them.

    Here we go: Bears

    Caution, Healing, Leadership

"The power of the Bear totem
    is the power of introspection.
The answers to all our questions
    lie within us.
Each of us has the capacity to quiet the mind,
    enter the silence and know.

Just as the bear hibernates during the winter,
people with a Bear totem will be quieter
during the winter months. But they
must awaken in the spring and seek
    whatever opportunities are around them.

When you have a Bear totem,
you are being guided to a leadership role.
You must be fearless in defending your beliefs.

The Bear also encourages you to exercise
your abilities as a natural healer.

Bears are associated with trees which are natural antennas, linking the heavens and the Earth.
Bear also has links to the seven color rays of the Universal Light
as well as Lunar ties, linking the subconscious and the unconscious mind.
It is associated with the Goddess Artemis."

Alternate entry from the dream dictionary on dreammoods.com (love that site):

    Bear
To dream that you are being pursued or attacked by a bear, denotes aggression, overwhelming obstacles and competition. You may find yourself in a threatening situation. Alternatively, bears symbolize the cycle of life and death and renewal.

It may signal of period of introspection and thinking. The dream may also be a pun on "bare". Perhaps you need to bare your soul and let everything out into the open.
