Re: pain...
1. go see your doctor, and get checked for carpel tunnel, or arthritis.
2. change one variable at a time.
personally, i would reccomend abstaining from keyboard/mouse for 2 weeks, and see how it feels.
i learned how to touch type in 1967, on an old remington manual typewriter, and i really don't remember a time where i haven't been on a keyboard (or typewriter) for more than a couple months since then. (now i am a programmer, and practically LIVE on a keyboard).
about 10 years ago, i ended up having to change from a conventional mouse, to a trackball (with a BIG ball, not a 'thumb' ball), because it was either that, or surgery. it made a WORLD of difference.
there are also posture issues, and specific keyboard designs that can help a lot.
there are also excersizes that i do that help.
the number one thing though, is to get checked for carpel tunnel, it IS is serious problem if not managed early.
