    Theosophy Society Symbols

We were in the inner city today and I noticed the symbols on the top of one of the Victorian-era buildings. I said to my husband, "Wow, look at that. Looks like some sort of theosophy society..." and when I looked closer, I saw the engraved name on the building (partly hidden behind trees): Melbourne Theosophy Society.

(Just for the record, the building now has retail on the bottom floor; no clue what's on the upper floors, but I don't think the Theosophy Society meets there any more, if it even exists at all.)

Anyway, I thought I'd post a shot of the symbols and see what people made of it. Obviously, there's the Ouroboros and the swastika symbol is of Hindu origin, but I'm not sure what it means. And, of course, I recognize the "Star of David" from Jewish mysticism (that symbol is actually Medieval, rather than ancient, which I find interesting). The rest I could guess at, but I may be wrong, so I won't bother.

Anyone know anything about 18th century theosophy symbols?

Is that an Egyptian ankh at the centre of the star? The Ankh represents the breath of life and life after death.

The Swastika is for good fortune.

I knew that. No, I did. I just didn't recognise it for some reason. I was actually thinking it was the astrological symbol of Venus.

    Bit more about the building:

Apparently it's the theosophical society, not theosophy society (couldn't read the sign well due to the tree in the way).

And there IS still an active Theosophical Society in Melbourne, it seems, they're just not in that building any more.

The newer incarnation of the Society uses a similar seal, but it's got more stuff on it:

See, I could have looked all that up and saved posting, but it's more fun this way.
